In 2008 and 2009 during the Great Recession, more than half of the adults in the U.S. labor force experienced some work-related hardship such as a cut in pay, reduction in hours, unemployment or involuntary move to part-time work. Kim Filomena was one of them. However, little did she know that obstacle would lead to an opportunity to change her life, and the lives of her family, in very big ways.
Kim needed flexibility and work/life balance because she was caring for two elderly parents, a daughter, and a son with autism. “I was so scared.
